We have been together for just short of five years and in that time we have been fortunate enough to live in 12 different homes across 3 countries, plus the month we spent living together in a van. Despite all of that, we have never had to furnish a place together.
Until now.
We decided very early on that we would look to rent a place and make a base in Vancouver for at least the first year of our time here. As I mentioned in my most recent post, one of the first things we did when we got here was start the apartment hunt.
Although we had yet to find somewhere to live, on Good Friday we put ourselves through the ultimate couple test – we took a trip to IKEA to price up and size up new furniture.
If I’m being totally honest, we mostly went for the lunch.

After taking a train, a bus and then a long walk across a huge (mostly empty) car park we made our way round the top level of the building trying to decide between “Askvoll” and “Trysil” (bed frames), taking pictures of everything and trying to visualise whether the items we liked would fit in any of the apartments we had previously viewed.
By the time we made it through to the other side we were pretty ravenous.

After filling up on a pretty lush lunch, we made our way downstairs to take in the millions of added extras that you always forget about when you’re renting a fully furnished apartment.

With our bellies full and our relationship still in tact, we headed off home to enjoy the rest of the long weekend and, fingers crossed, finally find somewhere to live.
