Day 14: Byron Bay to Ballina to Yamba to Coffs Harbour
Kilometres travelled – 264
Where we stayed – Bellinger River Tourist Park (paid)
Highlights – saw two big things ‘The Big Prawn’ and ‘The Big Banana’, played in big waves at Yamba, great views from the suspension bridge lookout (actually my idea of hell being afraid of falling) at the Forest Sky Pier in Coffs.

Day 15: to Nambucca Heads to Port Macquarie to Newcastle
Kilometres travelled – 386
Where we stayed – On our friends driveway (free, obviously)
Highlights – strolled along the beautiful V-Wall at Nambucca, visited the Koala Hospital and Roto House at Port Mac and went “out out” in Newcastle with our wonderful friends Polly and Cole.

The Wordplay Was Strong In Nambucca

Day 16: Newcastle to The Entrance
Kilometres travelled – 54
Where we stayed – Norah Head Holiday Park (paid)
Highlights – Cole making us bacon and egg sarnies and having proper hot showers before we set off, beautiful coastal drive, hungover day in the van – we had cereal for lunch and hot dogs for dinner, not very grown up of us really!
Day 17: The Entrance to Sydney
Kilometres travelled – 121
Where we stayed – our friend Zoe’s double bed and she slept on the sofa bless her (free, obviously)
Highlights – too many to count. Being back in Sydney with some of the best people. Our travelling friends Sarah and Joe cooked the most amazing lamb on the barbie and then we went “out out” again with our awesome friend Zoe and met a few people we’d met during our time living in Sydney. Being the reprobate I am, I was refused entry to the Irish Bar for being too intoxicated and then to another club for wearing “thongs” (flip flops). We managed to get hold of some jewelled sandals and I was allowed in to party the night away. Got to sleep in a real bed again!

Day 19: Jervis Bay to Hyams Beach to Ulladulla to Batemans Bay to Waldrons Swamp
Kilometres travelled – 143
Where we stayed – Waldrons Swamp Rest Stop (free)

Day 20: Waldrons Swamp to Tathra to Eden to Mallacoota
Kilometres travelled – 258
Where we stayed – Genoa Rest Area (free)
Highlights – braved the Waldrons Swamp drop toilets (yuck), took the tourist drive through some stunning lakes and passed yet more beautiful beaches, amazing view at The Rotary Park lookout in Eden, crossed the state line into Victoria, watched some massive pelicans in Mallacoota, saw a goanna crossing the road, convinced myself I was going to end up on the news as a murdered tourist as another group rocked up next to us and threw a lighter in their fire (we assume) – was convinced someone had been shot and that we were next…
