Anyone that follows us on Instagram, will know that we successfully made it to the beautiful town of Sechelt, on BC's Sunshine Coast. The journey was fairly smooth and we did not get questioned on our purpose of travel, but we did have our orchid prominently placed just in case!
Before I can start the recap of all the fun we've been having so far (I'm sure it will come as no surprise that there has been lots of eating and drinking...), I need to bring everyone up to speed on our last few weeks living at Myra Canyon Ranch.
When I left you, it was early March, Spring was just starting to show itself and we were indulging in lots of activities that involved food and wine...
Week 19
Spring Has Definitely Not Sprung...
One of the things we loved about our studio at the ranch was the incredible deck space and the views across Kelowna, but sadly it didn't get any sun over the winter. At the beginning of March, we started to get little slivers of sunshine hitting the deck and decided to try and have a romantic evening watching the sunset with a bottle of wine.
Rich set up the seating area with some blankets and a bottle of one of our favourite BC easy drinking wines, a Sumac Ridge Gewürztraminer.
We threw on some jumpers, snuggled under the blankets and soaked up the view. This was how we started the evening...

And this was us less than 10 minutes later...

Lesson learned, spring comes later to the mountains than it does to the valley!
Brunch, Beach & Booze
The day after our semi-successful date on the balcony (and a subsequent bottle of red wine in the house), we woke up feeling a little rough.
We were meant to be having a quiet day doing chores, but I think Rich gave it about 12 seconds thought before saying "yes" after I casually suggested that brunch might be a good idea.
After an incredible amount of food at Diner Deluxe, we finally got to feel the sand between our toes at Lake Okanagan with a walk at Boyce-Gyro Beach Park and finished up tasting cider at The View Winery & Vineyard. It was an awesome, impromptu day-date (and doing ALL of our chores the following day was just about worth it!)
Week 20
Week 20 was another slow and steady one. We received a lovely package from our wonderful Australian friend Chloe who we met whilst living in Vancouver. During our lockdown last March she taught herself to knit socks and when she got back to Australia she moved on to scarves. She sent them to us in January, but due to the complexities of Australia Post, Canada Post and Covid, they didn't arrive until mid-March - just in time for us to pack them away for next Winter!
We only overindulged once this week, we had a tasting paddle at the Copper Brewing Company and then ate some of the best poutine I've ever had and an incredible meat sandwich at montREALfood.
After the inevitable meat sweats, we decided to have a little pampering evening and applied peel-off facemasks on each other and we finished the week with me successfully making arancini balls for the first time - but my marina sauce definitely needs work!
Week 21
Another relatively slow week and the panic slowly setting in that it was the last week of March and that we'd be moving house again in just over a month.
We took a trip to the dentist and both had to have a little bit of work done. We had our faces frozen with an anaesthetic that took several hours to wear off and unable to speak or smile properly for the rest of the day.
There were more signs of Spring arriving. We got a parcel of actual British chocolate from my Mum to celebrate Easter and the ranch chickens started walking around the yard for the first time since October; but at the same time we had snow and hail showers on and off all week. Very odd.
So that's three more weeks summarised and once again I've run out of characters. This summary brings me up to the beginning of April so assuming that I don't get too distracted by whatever is dropping on Netflix next week, I should be able to start writing about our Sunshine Coast adventures very soon :)
