I can't believe that we are already approaching the halfway point of our time living at Myra Canyon Ranch. We are still loving our time living here, but are feeling very aware that time is running out!

Just like week 10, we did manage to leave the ranch a couple of times this week. Read on for an overview of what we got up to.

Two Sleepless Nights

We have a little friend who lives in the roof/walls of our unit. We didn't really think much of this until the owners asked one day if we had heard anything the previous night.

We told them that we had, and we'd heard him (not sure why we assume it's male, but in our heads it is?) quite frequently since we'd moved in, assuming that this was normal. Apparently, it's not normal and he shouldn't be there...

The little guy hadn't really bothered us until Monday night. We both love our sleep and are often in bed between 8:30-9:30pm. We usually hear him about 9pm, rustling and scratching for about 10 minutes.

On Monday, we stayed up "late" until about 11pm and at about 3am, Rich heard him scratching away in the wall just above his bed. Richard's tossing and turning managed to wake me up and we heard him having some kind of rooftop party for over an hour!

Rich eventually managed to get back to sleep by moving to the other end of the bed and wearing his noise-cancelling headphones.

On Tuesday morning, after the excitement of the night before, the alarms went off far too early and we were in bed even earlier that night - around 7:30pm!

Unfortunately that was the night that we had some of the craziest weather we've had since we arrived here. We were woken up around midnight with the wind howling around the ranch and it went on for hours on end.

In the morning I realised that one of the reasons it was so loud in our unit was because it had blown the bathroom window open! One of our decorative plants had blown out of the planter and there was a huge pile of snow on the balcony that had been swept off the roof!

Needless to say, after two nights of broken sleep we were pretty grouchy all day on Wednesday! We nearly even broke our "no drinking in the week" rule!

Waiting and Waiting and Waiting for a Pizza

We were meant to be having tomato soup for tea on Friday night. We were going to get some nice overpriced bread from Urban Fare so it would feel a bit more interesting.

As we were getting ready to drive downtown to pick up our weekend alcohol supplies and the "fancy bread", I casually said "we could get pizza and bring it home".

I was actually pretty keen on the idea, but my sensibilities said that we should have the soup. Rich, to my delight, said we should get pizza.

We went to Hansen's and ordered two 10" pizzas (yes there was pineapple and yes it IS a valid pizza topping!)

Literally as Rich was tapping his credit card to pay, the cashier advised him there would be a *muffled time* wait and would that be okay? It was possibly 25-30 or 35-40 minutes. Either way, given that the transaction had now processed, Rich said yes it would be fine.

Then we waited. As we sat in our car with the sun going down, we realised that neither of our phones had internet. Turns out, our payment details had expired and since we hadn't updated them, our service provider decided to cut us off rather than send us a reminder. *Eyeroll*.

So we waited. Without data. In the dark.

We watched two people get their order and then sit down in the tiny shop and have an actual date?! I don't know who thinks that's a great idea in the middle of a pandemic, but they seemed to enjoy it.

Thinking that most places usually overestimate timings, I went in after 20 minutes to see if our pizza might be ready soon. After searching for our order, I was advised that it wasn't in the oven yet and would be another 15-20 minutes.

I sent Rich back in at 35 minutes. The date couple finished up and left.

Finally after almost 42 minutes, Rich walked out with our two pizzas. I'm glad to say that they were worth the wait, but given how hungry I was at that point I would have eaten a deer carcass if it was put in front of me.

Should have just had soup.

Back to Brunch!

One of the things I truly miss about living in Vancouver, is the abundance of great eateries. In particular, I miss brunch.

I love the whole concept of brunch. That it's entirely acceptable to be a little bit drunk at 10:30 in the morning, whilst stuffing your face with "Insta worthy" food is something that I'm entirely on board with.

Since our move to Kelowna, we have focused our food adventures around the vast amount of wineries here, but on Sunday it was finally time for a return to brunch.

We headed to the well reviewed Lakeside Dining Room at the Eldorado Hotel for a nice "peaceful" brunch (a family of 5 and then 4 ladies on a boozy brunch both joined our seating area within 10 minutes of us sitting down!)

I had a "Craft Mosa" (lager, fizzy wine, vodka, triple sec and orange juice), whilst Rich went for a more sensible Negroni. To eat, I opted for a salmon benedict and Rich had an absolutely humongous brunch burger. (Total price $90.98 including 18% tip.)

We were very happy with the food, drinks and the beautiful view and took a lovely walk along the slightly slippery boardwalk afterwards.

It was the perfect return to brunch.

And that was that for week 11. Week 12 involves a jetted bathtub, a horrendous bruise and another brunch... Hopefully I will post those stories in a more timely manner than these ones!
