Week 12 at Myra Canyon Ranch was one of the best and busiest to date. I dropped some teasers at the end of my Week 11 Summary post, so read on below to find out how it all unfolded...

A Lovely Bath and an Awful Bruise

We LOVE baths. I'd say, on average, we probably take three baths a week. We have also made some of our best decisions during our "bath chats". Not that I set too much stock in horoscopes, but we are both water signs (Cancer and Scorpio) and our love of water extends to oceans, swimming pools and hot springs.

One of the things that really drew us to the ranch, therefore, was the incredible bathtub.

Alongside loving baths, we are also both exceptionally clumsy. It used to be a joke in my family that if there was a glass of water on the other side of the room, I was definitely going to knock it over - and, if possible, Rich is even worse than I am!

It was therefore almost an inevitability that at some point there would be a bath related incident, and in week 12 it finally happened.

Rich was getting out of the bath when he suddenly slipped on the top step, fell onto the bottom step and landed like a wet fish on the floor. He was obviously in a lot of pain, but all I could do was nervously giggle and "helpfully" cover his modesty with a towel!

He ended up with a shallow cut on his elbow and the most incredible bruise on his side.

Bruise 1 Day After The Fall
Bruise 3 Days After The Fall
Bruise 6 Days After The Fall

Still, this has not stopped our obsession with baths and just one day later we were back in the water...

A Wonderful Kelowna Staycation

We absolutely love living in British Columbia and there's very little that we would change. One big downside, however, is that standard vacation time in Canada is exceptionally poor. The basic entitlement is two working weeks (10 days).

Rich managed to negotiate an extra 5 days and he is entitled to 1 "personal day" for every year of employment. That means that this calendar year he will get 17 days vacation, which really doesn't feel like very much.

We've decided to make the most of these 17 days by having a lot of long weekends, rather than one "proper" holiday. Rich booked a day off work and we had a lovely date night in Kelowna.

After what felt like Richard's longest work day ever, he finally finished around 4pm and we headed to Delta Hotels by Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort.

Our check-in was seamless, and Brooklyn on the front desk even persuaded us to upgrade to a bigger room with a jetted tub. We REALLY can't say no to a bath!

We headed down to the pool which was a little chilly owing to the fact that it was both indoor and outdoor. It was such a nice feeling floating on our backs staring up at the stars above and watching the water evaporate around us. There was a hot tub in the pool area, but we were too keen to get back to our room and try out our private tub before dinner.

Dinner was at OAK + CRU Social Kitchen & Wine Bar, which is located on the ground floor of the hotel. Due to (presumably) Covid, they were running Happy "Hour" all evening so we had several beers and wines and a selection of small plates.

Richard really enjoyed the Lobster + Comte Grilled Brioche, but I was less keen on that preferring the Pork Belly Bahn Mi.

Feeling very full we had a great sleep in our super sized bed, unfortunately being woken up by Richard's work alarms! This did give us enough time to have another go in the jetted tub before check-out!

We haven't spent much time in downtown Kelowna, so after checking out of the hotel we took a beautiful walk through the hotel grounds and along the waterfront.

We wound our way through the streets of Kelowna, ending up at the Bohemian Café & Catering Co. where we had one of the best brunches of our entire lives.

The café was founded by a brother-sister team in 1991 and is still pretty much family run today. The focus is on local fresh produce and home style cooking and that is definitely evident in the food.

Rich went for the Corned Beef Hash whilst I opted for Huevos Rancheros. Neither dish would probably be considered a "traditional" Canadian breakfast, but when they arrived we were delighted with our choices.

It was one of the first meals we've had in a long time where we didn't really speak whilst eating. Occasionally, we stopped wolfing down the food to take a bite of each other's dish; but mostly we sat in silence, soaking up the ambience and savouring the deliciousness.

With our hearts and bellies full, we took a short walk back to the car and then returned to the ranch to enjoy the rest of our long weekend.

Between the room upgrade, parking, dinner and brunch, our Kelowna Staycation easily cost us over $350. Though this may seem extravagant for one night, we thoroughly enjoyed every second of our stay in downtown Kelowna and we can't wait for an opportunity for another adventure soon.
